On the same day, Conway’s husband, George Conway, resigned from The Lincoln Project, a committee of Republicans who oppose Conway’s soon-to-be former boss, Trump, to “devote more time to family matters.” But the family issues potentially at work here have been interpreted as reportedly being related to Kellyanne and George’s daughter, Claudia Conway, and her desire to be legally emancipated, at least as she tells it on social media.

What’s really happening with the Conways?

On Saturday, the 15-year-old, who has been gaining popularity in the recent weeks for publicly lambasting her parents, expressed her frustration about her mother speaking at the Republican National Convention, writing in a Twitter post, “i’m devastated that my mother is actually speaking at the RNC. like DEVASTATED beyond compare.” She soon added the comment about emancipation, “i’m officially pushing for emancipation. buckle up because this is probably going to be public one way or another, unfortunately. welcome to my life.” Given the timing of everything, people have been speculating that Claudia’s desire to be legally emancipated from her parents is the reason behind her parents’ recent resignations.

What is emancipation?

Emancipation, for those who are unaware, is the legal process where minors can gain the legal capacity of an adult and rid themselves of the authority of their parents. Claudia’s desire to be emancipated isn’t actually related to her mom’s career or her dad’s political views. Instead, she Tweeted, it’s actually because “of years of childhood trauma and abuse.” But if 15-year-old Claudia actually does want to pursue legal emancipation as a minor, it will definitely be a challenging ordeal, which would likely leave Claudia with having to pay for her own healthcare, housing and food–not to mention the tumultuous court process she might have to go through. Hopefully the process isn’t grueling and she gets the help she needs.
