This isn’t the first time that the twins have experienced viral fame. In June, People Magazine interviewed the 21-year-old twins from Gary, Indiana, who grew up listening to music of their time (think, 2010s hip hop like Lil Wayne) but decided to deliberately broaden their musical horizons. According to People, Tim came up with the idea while Fred was at college, and they started expanding their musical repertoire with church music, which was also music of their childhood. Tim told People: “We wanted to start a new trend to appreciate old music. We’re open to all genres. We also want to bring people together because there’s no color in music.” It’s rare, after all, that a young kid will listen to the music that their parents enjoyed (the channel includes classics like Alicia Keys, Lauryn Hill, Bob Marley, Stevie Wonder, Amy Winehouse, Cyndi Lauper, and The Fugees) without being forced to in a long car ride, strapped in with a seat belt buckle, against their will. When the twins listen to Lauryn Hill for the first time, one asks: “Why haven’t we ever heard her before?” Sounds like something your dad might say.
