The movie Soul stars the voices of Jamie Foxx, Tina Fey, Phylicia Rashad, Ahmir Questlove Thompson, Angela Bassett, and Daveed Diggs. It also features new jazz music by Jon Batiste and a score composed by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. The animated movie tells the story of a middle-grade jazz band teacher named Joe (Foxx) who dreams of playing in a specific jazz club, is, instead, whisked away to an otherworldly dimension comprised just of people’s souls. At this point, Joe wants to return to the land of the living and has to convince other souls/ghosts that being alive in the world is worth it. Basically, the movie scans like an inverted It’s a Wonderful Life, but with a Pixar spin and some great music. Hopefully, the movie is as good as it sounds.
