Kahla Maneely, from Joy, Pennsylvania, received a text with a photo from a parent in her 5-year-old daughter’s class. The photo was a “friendship ring” with a message that read, “hey Myla gave this to [daughter’s name] on the bus today? She might have been in your stuff lol.” The “friendship ring” was a sex toy. A purple vibrating ring that the mom kept in her bedroom cabinet, intended for her and her husband. I don’t think mortified cuts it, but that’s what Maneely felt. “When I saw the picture on the text, it took me a second to put two and two together and my heart sank down to the pit of my stomach,” she said. “I didn’t know what to do; I’ve never been that embarrassed in my whole life. I spent ten minutes just staring at my phone trying to think of a good response because I didn’t know what to say.” Humor is essential in this situation while respecting the mom who may be concerned that her daughter received this on the school bus and Maneely’s response to the inquiring parents was very honest. “Wow, I am mortified!!” she starts off the text. “I don’t even know what to say. I am so sorry! I can assure you though that it was NOT used, “ she explained saying her daughter probably thought it was a ring. “I texted her back and as soon as I sent it I laughed so hard I couldn’t breathe, I thought I was going to pass out from not being able to catch my breath,” Maneely said in an interview. “I wanted to reassure her that her daughter wasn’t wearing a used c**k ring as a bracelet. I’m very happy her mom handled that so great, I’m so thankful that she didn’t flip out.” The mom then sat down with her 5-year-old who admitted she had taken it out of a box she found in her dad’s bedroom belongings. She gave it to her friend on the bus after wearing it at school all day. “She tried to lie at first, but then asked me what it was as it was ‘really stretchy’ – I told her to mind her business,” mom said. Maneely, like other parents who have had something similar happen to them, learned the lesson that it’s always a good idea to hide these types of products more out of reach from our kid’s hands and eyes. And her daughter learned how important it is to respect privacy and to not snoop in her parent’s bedroom.
