After all, one of the biggest daily challenges parents have faced in the ongoing pandemic is how to keep their kids busy, and busy without their help, so that they can get their work done or maybe even enjoy a well-earned moment of peace and quiet. And Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher are no exception to that struggle, as Kunis revealed during an interview with Extra the ways that she and her husband have had to get creative to keep their kids from getting overwhelmed with boredom. “We’ve done every craft humanly possible,” Kunis said, as she began to launch into their creative response to having done everything under the sun. So with every craft imaginable completed, Kunis and Kutcher needed to figure out a new way to keep their kids entertained despite being forced to stay at home. Fortunately, the two ended up creating a brilliant and ridiculous craft-based game that managed to keep their children happy while also encouraging their creative sides… even if it’s a little unsanitary. (We’re sure they wash the recycling before they let their children play with it.) “We’ve now allocated trash as crafts…,” Kunis said. “We have a thing called Happy Trash. You guys can take that and run with it,” Kunis explained, probably realizing how she sounded but not realizing how many parents are going to want to get this activity going with their kids. “Happy Trash, when you run out of things to do, you give your children a bag of happy trash and it’s like recyclables and they can make a robot out of it, or a fort, or a town or a city.” According to Kunis, her daughter Wyatt Isabelle, 6, and son Dimitri Portwood, 4, have loved getting to create whatever they want out of their old recyclables and you’ve got to admit, Happy Trash is a pretty genius way to get kids focused on a task that sparks their creativity without involving screens or creating waste with craft materials. So if you find yourself running out of ideas of how to keep your kids busy, and you’re stuck inside, try gathering up some recyclables and see if you can get your own version of Happy Trash going. Who knows? It could become your kid’s favorite new activity.
