On Sunday, several fans caught a glimpse of Keanu on horseback in New York and quickly posted the action to Twitter. To be clear, Keanu is not using a stunt double, he is actually riding a horse, pretty damn fast through the street. It’s unclear at this time if the horse was using a stunt double or not. Like the first two installments — John Wick and John Wick: Chapter 2 — John Wick 3: Parabellum will be directed by Chad Stahelski and is scheduled for release on May 17, 2019. For those who didn’t pay attention in high school Latin class, the word “Parabellum” roughly translates to “prepare for war.” It’s also the name of a German-built semi-automatic machine gun. Whether Keanu will have machine gun while riding a horse in John Wick 3 is not known at this time, but it seems like a foregone conclusion. It’s also not insane to think that the horse in this scene is just straight-up named “Parabellum.” Come on. Seems like a horse name, right? Riding horses and being awesome is a time-honored tradition in male-centric action movies, but in truth, it feels like it’s been a minute since a horseback scene really felt great. In 1989’s Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Harrison Ford famously made everyone nervous by insisting on doing one horse stunt himself. When Indy leaps from that horse onto that German tank, it’s mostly Ford all the way. Now, with Keanu doing his own horse stuff for John Wick 3, there’s every reason to believe he’s making Stahelski nervous, too. Stay tuned for updates on the horse’s name and let’s cross our fingers that we’re right. – John Wick 3 is out from Lionsgate on May 17, 2019.-
