Oh, and there are giant alien sandworms that jump out of a desert planet. If you’re new to the Dune hype; welcome. Your older kids are gonna love it, and you’re gonna love it, too. On September 9, Twitter Movies debuted the Dune trailer after Stephen Colbert interviewed the entire cast and director Denis Villeneuve, before debuting the first full trailer for Dune. And again, whether you’re a big fan of the books, or not, this trailer will rock you. Jason Momoa — who plays Duncan Idaho — screams “fight like demons!” and in the Q&A told Stephen Colbert that Duncan could easily beat Khal Drogo in a fight. Watch the trailer above and below. Dune is the third movie adaptation of the 1965 novel by Frank Herbert. The 1984 David Lynch version is probably the most famous, though it was mired in controversy, and Lynch himself has basically disowned it. There was also an attempt in 1975 to adapt the film by Alejandro Jodorowsky, which was never made and was the subject of the 2013 documentary Jodorowsky’s Dune. But, the epic of the family Atreides in the far future, and their struggle to control the fantastic substance known as “the Spice,” has never been turned into a movie that everyone can agree on. But, that may all change in December 2020. The film’s cast is off the hook: Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Zendaya, David Dastmalchian, Chang Chen, Sharon Duncan-Brewster, Charlotte Rampling, Jason Momoa, and Javier Bardem. Get ready. We’re gonna be talking about Dune for a while. Dune comes to theaters (for now) on December 18, 2020.
