Way back in 2016, during Captain America: Civil War, the Team Cap faction of the Avengers were briefly confronted by Agent Sharon Carter (Emily VanCamp) the great-niece of Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell); Cap’s true love from the 1940s. Now, in the new trailer for Falcon and Winter Soldier, we see Sharon catch-up with Bucky and Sam, saying “here we go again.” So far, Sharon has only appeared in Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Captain America: Civil War. In Avengers: Endgame, we briefly saw her photo on a screen, indicating that she was probably a victim of the Thanos “blip” in Infinity War. Interestingly, this idea vaguely links Falcon and Winter Soldier to WandaVision — both shows will feature a pivotal government agent who was a victim of the Thanos “snap.” In WandaVision it’s Captain Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) and in Falcon and Winter Soldier it’s Agent Sharon Carter (VanCamp). (Notably, most of the characters in the new Disney+ shows feature Avengers who were victims of the “snap,” including Wanda, Sam, and Bucky!) But why is Sharon saying “here we go again” in the new trailer? Well, in The Winter Soldier, Sharon actually fought Bucky at one point, and in Civil War, she helped Cap, Sam, and Buck get their cool superhero equipment back, including the famous Captain America shield. Basically, she has a history of catching up with these guys when they go on the run. Does this mean Falcon and Winter Soldier will feature these guys on the run? PROBABLY. In one scene, we see a what looks like “Captain America” running through a football halftime show, high-fiving some people. But, that is almost certainly a fake version of Captain America propped-up by the US government in attempt to rob Sam of the title. In other words, it seems pretty obvious that one plotline of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will be all about Sam having to fight for his title as the new Captain America, which, you know, was bestowed upon him by Steve at the end of Endgame. So, what’s up with Bucky catching the shield at that one moment in the trailer? Is Sharon going to help these dudes or what? For Marvel fans looking for something a little more straight-up — and less mind-bending than WandaVision — The Falcon and the Winter Soldier looks pretty damn awesome. But, just to make sure you know what the hell is going on, it might be a good idea to rewatch Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Captain America: Civil War right now. (Both are streaming on Disney+.) The Falcon and the Winter Soldier drops on Disney+ on March 19.
